Founded by artist and writer Amanda Martin Katz, 3307 W Washington Blvd takes its name from its address in the Arlington Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles. At the front entrance is a sculpture of moveable shelves that Katz built to house her personal library collection and inspire collaborations about embodied forms of reading. 3307 is a place where people relate through a melding of cerebral, somatic, and social inquiry: the BOOKSHELVES residency, EXPERIMENTATIONS series, and IBID programming each provide distinct frameworks for experiential projects and community engagement. In particular, the BOOKSHELVES residency (2016–2019) explored how artists, writers, and curators position themselves and their practices through citing, sharing, and producing texts.

The rear of the warehouse serves as Katz’s studio and kitchen, where she hosts meals, performances, and cultural discussions. The location itself is an architectural interstice that is treated as an artistic medium, and its various spatial configurations are designed to facilitate experiments in public and private modes of creative practice. While a continuously shifting physical and conceptual site, all of the initiatives at 3307 critique educational biases to create opportunities for collective imagination, questioning how our intellects are formed so as to have agency over how we continue to learn.
