Market Lab

Market Lab was a course intensive for MFA students from Otis College of Art and Design’s Graduate Public Practice program, which culminated in a public lunch and discussion. The intensive was titled “An Inquiry into Hosting as a Socially Engaged Art Practice: Exploring Core Relationships (host-guest, host-host, host-self) Over the Life Cycle of a Meal (cook, consume, clean),” and did just that.

Assigned Readings

Jan Verwoert, “Gathering People Like Thoughts”

Temporary Services, Group Work: A Compilation of Quotes about Collaboration from a Variety of Sources and Practices

Two Market Lab references we recommend:

  1. Artists Report Back, Animated video by BFAMFAPhD which asks “What is a work of art in the age of $120,000 art degrees?”
  2. Artists, What is Your Value? Seduction Value and Metabolism video of critic Jan Verwoert’s presentation at the ICA.
